USSJC Crew in Jefferson City Home Port!

The Commanding Officer, CDR Dean Richter, of the USS Jefferson City (SSN759), along with Senior Chief Crispian Addington, MM1(SS) Joseph Decker, III, ET1(SS) Houston Silver, and MM3(SS) Nicholas Starkey, are welcomed to the Jefferson City VFW Post 1003. The Post and the 1003 Ladies Auxiliary prepared a super "Welcome Aboard Party" for the crew members. The crew had just arrived from the St. Louis Airport and are in town until Friday, September 5, 2003. Many activities have been planned for their stay:

MONDAY

  • BBQ event hosted by Danny and Gerry DeLong, Florence and Dean Lawson, and Jim and Kathy Haynes.

  • CDR Richter and Senior Chief Addington on KWOS Radio
  • Visit with Governor Holden and tour the State Capitol
  • Senior Chief Addington's Reenlistment Ceremony
  • Visit with Senator Carl Vogel
  • Lunch with Dave Turner, President of Exchange Bank
  • Tour of the Governor's Mansion
  • Visit with the St. Joseph School's 4th Grade Class
  • Central Dairy Ice Cream Stop
  • Attend City Council Meeting

  • CDR Richter & Senior Chief Addington on KLIK Radio
  • Visit with students at Moreau Heights Elementary School (Newspaper Article)
  • Lunch at Zesto's
  • Operations Brief at Missouri University NROTC
  • Capital Mainstreet's "Street Gathering" in historic downtown

  • Tour Scholastic Magazine Company
  • Lunch at Lewis & Clark Middle School
  • Visit to Herman Smith's Submarine Museum
  • Dinner at American Legion Post 5, provided by Navy Ships 5

    • FRIDAY
  • Depart for home

    • During the 2003 visit, CDR Richter is hosted by his parents, Dean and Florence Lawson. Senior Chief Addington is hosted by Roy and Lana Viessman (Roy is City Council representative on the USS Jefferson City Submarine Committee). ET1(SS) Silver is being hosted by Roy and Ronda Kauffman (US Submarine Veteran), and MM1(SS) Decker and MM3(SS) Starkey by Jerry and Melody Green. Melody coordinates all crew visits.
